Great drink disaster

Some of you may remember the great sandwich disaster. This time drinks were struck.

Rolando and I just figured out last week that we’ve been serving up some really awful drinks. What does that mean? Some were way way to bitter, some too sweet. Many were watery. Few were balanced.

The problem is that we moved from a small operation to a large operation and didn’t put the proper tools (e.g., recipes) and controls in place. We may have been at this for as many as 3-4 weeks. That’s a lot of bad drinks. Sorry everybody.

We’ve completely re-worked both the Assam and the Hibiscus iced tea recipes. Tomorrow we’re going to be giving them both away for free on both trucks. That’s right, free. For everybody. It’s our way of apologizing. If you’ve thought our drinks could be better, you were probably right, give them another try tomorrow. If you never tried them, that’s OK, they’re free tomorrow. If you’ve had them and loved them, that’s great. Love them more tomorrow (they’ll taste better than ever and they’ll be free). Did I mention, free?

You may want to look at the brown sugar lemonade, also. I got one (at MIT) on June 28th, and it was not-at-all lemony. (I guess I should have said something then!)

Hi. Love your truck. A couple of comments:
    1) Do not like sweeteners in my tea. PLEASE have a ‘straight up’ option. Your reformulated assam is not for me as it still has some sort of sweetener in it. If you don’t have capacity for this option at your trucks, I hope you will at your future restaurants. Was just in NYC and it is the norm in all restaurants and organic places and natural places and fast food places and coffee shops to have unsweetened ice tea.

    2) BLT is excellent, but really isn’t substantial compared to your other offerings. Consider adding more stuff– tempeh bacon and/or veggies?

    Thanks.

That’s funny. I tried the ‘truck’ for the first time yesterday in South Station. I sampled the blueberry lemon-aid and it was very watery. Although appearances are totally misleading. All the drinks looked excellent. Anyway I am glad someone noticed. I did like my eggplant and egg sandwich and I love the pita bread whatever it is whole wheat I presume?

    Sue –

Sorry you don’t like sweeteners in your tea. We don’t like anything too sweet, but think a touch of agave syrup makes the Iced tea exciting to folks who otherwise wouldn’t go for it. Our iced tea has about 15% of the sweetener as a soda.

I love unsweetened iced tea as well, and we may consider it in the restaurant. But I also love Clover’s iced tea.

BLT –> don’t hate it. Almost all of my employees start out criticizing the BLT. But give it 6 months, it may be the only sandwich you eat.

I tried the Hibiscus tea when you were giving them out for free. It was fantastic! The only thing close to it is the Jamaica over at Anna’s Taqueria and that is much sweeter.
