Hibiscus tea nutritionals

Hibiscus is a flower that grows in tropical climates. It’s pretty tart and has an amazing deep red color when you steep it. There are several different ways this drink is traditionally prepared  by adding diffrent herbs, spices and/or sugar.  Our recipe: we double steep the hibiscus and add just enough brown sugar to balance some of the tartness without it tasting sweet.  It took us a while to find a balance between the two, but we think we found it.

We decided to put hibiscus tea on the menu when we first opened the MIT truck to give people a non-caffeinated drink option. This is for a 12 oz serving.

To give you context 16 fl oz of Coke has about 200 calories.

so your hibiscus tea contains 200 calories ?

Nope. That’s just a reference point for you. You were asking how much sugar, right? The Hibiscus has 44 g of sugar. Coke has 200 g of sugar (for 16 fl oz). So 4 hibiscus have a little less sugar than a coke of equivalent size.

could you guys give some kind of rough calorie estimate for the yogurt+granola in the proportions it’s been in lately, i.e. about half yogurt half granola?

So I love Clover @ South Station (HUB?), Sandy or Mary are so nice in the morning… and on Thursday I have the Breakfast Sandwich. SO I’m doing FitBit to get healthier, and Clover is a part of that. The the Breakfast Sandwich is a favorite and I can’t find any nutritional about it on your site, so I built my own using http://nutritiondata.self.com to do the nutritional (except the pita, used your data) and came up with a rough estimate, see http://www.fitbit.com/foods/Breakfast+Sandwich/1234710. I know it’s off some cause I’m pretty sure your cheddar is healthier then what they estimated, and the salt is lower cause again the cheddar on the site was really high. Can you calculate it and let me know, so I can update the entry.

Keep up the good work, and the food.

    Eric
