Winter Moon Roots Farmshare (Hadley, MA) + Home Delivery Option!
You’ve never had a carrot until you’ve had a Michael Docter carrot. Michael is the godfather of winter produce in our region, I honestly don’t know anyone quite like him. His hands are rough, his heart is 100% in it for the right reasons. We buy Michael’s colorful roots for nearly all of our wintertime sandwiches at Clover, and we’re thrilled to be able to bring this super-popular farmshare straight to you for the 6th winter in a row.
Winter Moon Roots is offering home delivery to Boston (all neighborhoods), Brookline, Newton, Cambridge, Somerville, Watertown, Belmont, Arlington, Medford, Melrose, and Malden from December 7, 2020 to March 8, 2021. After you sign up, Andrew and the folks at What Cheer Fruit and Produce Delivery will reach out to you to get your address and any relevant delivery details. Please don’t sign up for this option unless you live in one of these neighborhoods.
1. So Michael, how are your roots so yummy?
Winter Moon’s goal is to get folks the tastiest winter roots with the minimal carbon footprint possible. Our storage system relies on using cold night-time temperatures to cool the crop instead of energy intensive refrigeration. Each year, we deliver by bicycle between 25,000-30,000 lbs of roots (the roots that go to Boston arrive by truck!)
2. Why should people sign up?
- Affordable, Local and Organic food all winter long!
- Save money, save the planet, and support farmers during the winter months!
- Cooking with our roots, fresh baked tortillas and Baer’s beans, you will be eating scrumptious food that is low on the food chain.
3. What is an example of an average share?
Here is an average share (subject to change slightly each pickup)
5 LB Winter Moon Roots’ Famous Carrots*
1 LB Red Beets*
.5 LB Gold Beet*
1 LB Hakurei Turnip*
.5 LB Watermelon Radish*
2 LB Gold Potatoes*
1 Dozen Mi Tierra Tortillas*
1 LB Baer’s Beans (sustainably grown, varietal will change each pickup)
If you were to buy these exact same products at the winter farmer’s market it would cost $248.50. Or put another way, the Winter Moon CSA costs about $11/week for a steady supply of delicious, organic produce all winter long.
4. What is your favorite winter item? What do you like to cook with?
Carrots and Macomber Rutabaga sauteed with butter and thyme are my definite favorite winter dish!
