Concord Grapes are in

25 September, 2012: Last year was a bad year for Concord grapes and we totally missed the short season. This year, we paid closer attention. The season is now, but is still short (about 2 weeks). We’re getting them from Autumn Hills Orchard in Groton, MA. Heather and I took our boys on a little hike this weekend. The photo… Read More

Fennel Sandwich v.2

13 September, 2012: We’ve been testing out our new seasonal sandwich over at MIT. That’s Chase trying it out and letting us know what he thought. We’ve gotten lots of feedback (check out the comments on the original post here), and now we are on to version 2. We’ve added a ton of flavor to the fennel bulb by adding… Read More

Golden beet, mint, bleu

11 September, 2012: This is a spin off of Clover’s first salad ever, the Beet, mint, feta. This is the first time we are making it. We would like some feedback on this salad. So, today at Harvard Square, we will be sampling out this salad and asking how you like it. We are garnishing it with toasted walnuts, so careful, if… Read More

Shiso

10 September, 2012: We were working on an iteration of the broccoli cheddar sandwich last month and it was missing something herbaceous. I thought of adding shiso because it fits with the Asian style sandwich and is a bit more interesting than cilantro or basil. I mentioned it in the meeting and that’s when I realized that most people have… Read More

Barefoot coffee: Sigri Estate, Papua New Guinea

7 September, 2012: Our next coffee is a fun one from Papua New Guinea roasted out in San Jose, CA by Barefoot roasters. The coffee plants are grown at a fairly high altitude (1550 meters) above sea level with a cooler climate and lots of rain throughout the year. The location is perfect for growing these Arabica beans. We’re brewing… Read More

Matt’s coffee: Lunji Estate, peaberry, Tanzania

14 August, 2012: We’re all so excited about this next coffee from Matt’s up in Maine. One of Matt’s favorite coffees, it’s from Tanzania and he’s really showing us his craftsmanship with the excellent quality of the roast he put on these beans. It’s a well-balanced and round coffee. It has earthy flavor notes that are smooth, chocolatey with some… Read More

Tomato sandwich

9 August, 2012: Tomatoes are finally in, a little later this year than usual. Which means we’re welcoming back the Tomato sandwich. This gets mayo, cheddar, a thick slice of an heirloom tomato with salt and pepper, and lettuce. The flavor of these tomatoes are unreal. I love to scratch the stems on the tomatoes and sniff them to enjoy… Read More

Jaggery lemonade

5 July, 2012: We’re trying out Jaggery (palm sugar) lemonade at Harvard Square today. The sap from the palm tree is extracted, then cooked to a syrup, much like sugaring houses here do, with maple syrup. Jaggery syrup is further processed into solid discs, pucks and other various shapes. You can buy jaggery at Indian or South Asian markets. We’ve… Read More
