Catch that excitement

I heard some crazy statistic one time that said three-quarters of Boston residents had met Mayor Menino. (For the record, I haven’t met him, but I have it on good authority that he used to send his employees down to our truck at City Hall to grab lunch).

I was reminded of this when I was talking to customers about the George Howell event. A surprising number of people said, “Oh yeah, I’ve met him, I’ve been to his store, he’s so great! He got me so excited about coffee!”

It’s been cool to hear that after so long, and so many accolades and awards, he’s still super excited about coffee. It’s cool to hear that excitement spreading to everyone he meets. That’s a picture of George at Clover back when we first opened. You can meet the man this Thursday, 8:30am-10am at Clover in Burlington. We’ll have cider donuts and other fun surprises too.

Respecting our team members and our customers

Yesterday, a video shot this summer was posted by an online prankster who bought a Soy BLT sandwich at Clover, put a chicken cutlet on the sandwich himself, then approached one of our team members to complain, claiming the restaurant served him chicken. Our employees were very confused and one employee got very upset. The situation escalated when the internet prankster asked for $100 in return for not posting the video online.

How to celebrate tomato season

Tender now on the menu

About a year and a half ago, at an open-to-the-public food development meeting at Clover, we blind taste-tested a new plant-based pulled pork. This wasn’t a totally new thing for us to do—as a company with a climate mission, we tend to get a lot of samples of plant-based everything, and we love trying all of them. We’ve tried mycelium-based mushroom meats, wheat-and-soy nuggets, and burgers made from kelp. One bite in, and it was clear this pulled pork was special.
