We just got back from a food trip to the deepest most Southern region of Italy. We took advantage of Enzo’s family connections, and my broken Italian, and Ethan’s wifi plan, and immersed ourselves fully in the food traditions of one of the most unexplored regions of Italy.
We went to Calabria, the toe of the boot, a rural beachside area which is closer to Tunisia than to Naples. Then we went to Sicily, to hunt the panella sandwich in its native land.
Powered by reverse jet-lag and hospitality and gas station espresso, Ayr’s ability to eat 6 or 7 meals per day, and Chris’s ability to drive stick shift while cutting and consuming unpasteurized goats milk cheese, we made the most of 5 days and are now looking at Clover through new eyes. Yes, there will be recipes. But there will be changes to Clover that go far beyond that.
