The spring vegetables are slowly emerging. Chris got a call from Hadley, MA this morning. Asparagus is ready. You might notice we haven’t had it yet. We’ve been waiting for the local stuff. Asparagus is a member of the lily family, and there’s nothing quite like it.
I’ve been learning a bit about the legacy of asparagus in Hadley. During the 1800’s it was so plentiful in Hadley that they called it Hadley Grass. A fungus destroyed most of the crops and after that, it was never quite as productive. But the region still produces most of the asparagus for the whole state.
We can only afford to run this for a week, so come and get it now. Or if you can get your hands on some Hadley Grass, here’s how you can make it at home: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M7g98Ulzbo8
