It’s decidedly *not* from New England, it’s not particularly healthy, and Ayr even swore it would never be on our menu. And yet it’s one of the most exciting things we’ve got going on right now.
King Cake is a New Orleans delicacy that came over from France in the 1800s (they had been eating it there since medieval times). It got its name because it celebrates the day that Jesus appeared to the 3 kings. Traditionally a little baby toy or bean is baked into the dough – if you find it you get to be king for the day and you have to host Mardi Gras next year.
Jason is working on a King Cake baking kit featuring a beautiful lofty brioche dough kit, nut filling, icing, and sprinkles. You can buy it as part of our Mardi Gras Menu and make a King Cake for your family.
I had to insist that we include a baby – and the team agreed. So if you buy this kit you’ll get a fava bean baby to hide. Remember to let your guests know to look out for it.
