If you participated in our Winter CSA this year you recognize those beautiful New England roots. This was our first time facilitating a Winter CSA. Michael Docter, farmer at Winter Moon Roots, created 8 pickups, every other Friday, 20 pounds of food each, for $160 for the whole season (which worked out to $20 for each pickup). It was a true deep winter share, just roots.
Today is the last pickup of the season. Michael drove down from Hadley and is spending the day meeting customers as they pick up their shares at Clover.
Working with Michael to make this CSA happen has been one of the most rewarding parts of this year. I took home a bag every 2 weeks. And Clover purchased all of the carrots on our menu from Winter Moon. Carrots are a main component of our chickpea fritter, so we go through close to 1 ton of carrots every month. And when Eddie went to order carrots this week, Michael told him we had cleaned him out of wholesale carrots. That was really exciting for us to hear. It means that because of our customers, he’ll get to grow more food next year! If you’re a CSA member and want to continue supporting the work Michael is doing, you can sign up for a summer CSA from his sister farm, Next Barn Over.
