Our new local coffee is grown in Bolivia and roasted by Matt’s up in Maine. This coffee is certified organic and comes from a cooperative called Asocafe, consisting of about 200 members.
One neat thing about this coffee is that it is grown at a high altitude (about 1500 meters). Also, the Typica varietal, which is grown in this region, is an “old school” bean, yielding 30% less fruit, but packing in a bit more flavor than other varieties.
This coffee is delicious. Great hot or iced, it’s straightforward and pleasing. It has a wonderful natural sweetness with a round flavor profile, ending with a nutty and chocolate finish. Matt is a master of his craft with his awesome wood-fired roaster. If you get a cup, let us know how you like it.
Later this week, Matt is opening up a café, up in Portland, ME, called Speckled Ax Espresso. It’s located on 567 Congress Street. So if you are up in that area, stop in and tell him Clover sent you. Matt informed me that, Speckled Ax is a reference to a story from Ben Franklin’s autobiography (something to do with all the little flaws in all of us). Congrats and good Luck Matt.
