Last week at CloverHSQ there was some beer batter in the lowboy and I glanced over and saw some apples and thought it might be fun to fry some slices of apples dipped in the batter. So about 5 minutes later, we were tasting them and they were yummy. Crust was slightly salty, with the beer undertone, all balanced by the sweet and slightly tart apple interior. Chris said that it reminded him of those old apple pies at Mickey D’s.
This morning, I was thinking about that apple pie interior and realized what was missing, a cinnamon glaze. So I quickly adapted the recipe by coating the apples in cinnamon sugar first and then dipping them in the batter and frying them extra crispy. That did the trick.
I wanted to share with you all, so we’re running them this week as our 3pm special. Available at a Clover near you.
