Meet brewing pioneers, Thursday 10/10, 8pm, at CloverHSQ

Until REALLY recently, most local beer wasn’t actually local. Meaning it wasn’t brewed with local grain, local malt, or local yeast. But here in Mass, we’re on the forefront of a brewing revolution that’s changing all that. Andrea Stanley of Valley Malt and Chris Lohring of Notch Brewing are two of the pioneers pushing this forward.

Come to CloverHSQ (7 Holyoke) at 8pm on October 10 for the launch of Notch and Valley Malt’s latest collaboration, the Notch BSA Harvest Ale. This beer was made through the BSA (brewers-supporting-agriculture, kind of like a CSA but for brewers). Brewers pre-pay for fields of barley before the season starts, and when it’s harvested, Valley Malt turns it into malt.

The Notch BSA is almost ready, and we’re hosting the release party! The first 10 people at HSQ at 8pm will get a special grain gift from Valley Malt!

Respecting our team members and our customers

Yesterday, a video shot this summer was posted by an online prankster who bought a Soy BLT sandwich at Clover, put a chicken cutlet on the sandwich himself, then approached one of our team members to complain, claiming the restaurant served him chicken. Our employees were very confused and one employee got very upset. The situation escalated when the internet prankster asked for $100 in return for not posting the video online.

How to celebrate tomato season

Tender now on the menu

About a year and a half ago, at an open-to-the-public food development meeting at Clover, we blind taste-tested a new plant-based pulled pork. This wasn’t a totally new thing for us to do—as a company with a climate mission, we tend to get a lot of samples of plant-based everything, and we love trying all of them. We’ve tried mycelium-based mushroom meats, wheat-and-soy nuggets, and burgers made from kelp. One bite in, and it was clear this pulled pork was special.
